Sexual Assault

Each year, ACTS Sexual Assault Services supports approximately 400 individuals and their family members by providing advocacy and accompaniment to hospital forensic exams, court, and other criminal justice related interviews and appointments. We also work to raise awareness about sexual violence via trauma informed sessions, groups and events to engage survivors in our positive and empowering community of support. Sexual violence affects us all, and we welcome everyone regardless of race, religion, age, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, disability, or immigration status.

If you would like to talk to a specialist about experiences as a result of sexual violence, have questions about what your options are, would like to know what happens following an assault, or would like information to support a loved one, you can contact ACTS Sexual Assault Services Hotline 24/7 at 703-497-1192. All of our services are provided at no cost, including outreach and education.
We hold support groups throughout the year for hundreds of survivors of adult and childhood sexual violence, including ongoing groups at the Prince William Adult Detention Center.

*Sexual Assault Services are offered in English and Spanish.

About Our Service

ACTS Sexual Assault Services is the only sexual assault crisis center serving the Greater Prince William Area residents, including the Cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, and the Towns of Haymarket, Occoquan, Quantico and Dumfries where our main offices are located.

Our clients report that our services help them to feel understood, powerful and self-sufficient. We uphold the principle that sexual assault is a social, rather than a personal, problem. We provide a support system of people helping people through understanding, peer interaction, education, and advocacy. ACTS helps survivors of sexual violence discover paths to healing and works to develop ways to help the community fight back against power-based violence.

Hospital Accompaniment

Following a sexual assault, you have the option to seek a medical exam at the hospital to collect evidence and receive preventative care regardless of your decision to report to the police. ACTS Sexual Assault Services’ role is to advocate for your emotional and personal needs, which enables other professionals to focus on their role of investigation or evidence collection. The police or hospital may contact an advocate to be available during your time at the medical office, or you may call our hotline 24/7 to request someone be there for you.

Criminal Justice Accompaniment

ACTS Sexual Assault Services helps victims navigate the criminal justice process if you choose to report. When permissible, we provide accompaniment throughout law enforcement interviews, pre-trial meetings, hearings, trial, and sentencing. The police may contact an advocate to be available, or you may call our hotline 24/7 to request someone be there for you.

Individual Support

It can be difficult to reach out for help after your or a loved one have experienced sexual assault, or when you are ready to finally talk about your experiences. Our team of empathetic and compassionate individuals understands these complicated dynamics, and will work with you via individual advocacy and related referral resources. The Sexual Assault Specialist’s role is to provide education and confidential support, as well as develop a service plan that can help you begin to reassert power over your own life. This service is provided in person, virtually, or over the phone.
For children under 11 years of age, please ask to speak with a Specialist for resources and referrals.

Support Groups

"It was very helpful to be in a support group with people who had been through the same experiences as me. The facilitators were great, too! I received the emotional support I needed to take the next steps in my life. I feel more hopeful for myself and my family."
Group support from peers can be a powerful tool for healing. We offer confidential support groups for adults with referral resources for children. Our support groups are facilitated by peers and sexual assault advocates who understand the unique challenges faced by sexual assault survivors. Classes are ongoing weekly and are held virtually or in person, as well as special support focused events for survivors, such as an evening making art.

ACTS Sexual Assault Services provides education and training to a wide array of community members, agencies, educational institutions, and professional organizations to improve awareness of sexual violence, harassment, and intervention methods to better identify and serve victims within our community. We seek to break down barriers of silence and empower the community to speak out against sexual violence.
