On July 7th, personal trainer and yoga instructor, Alicia Cross, and Coach TJ Fabis of Priority Wellness hosted an afternoon of fun and fitness at Occoquan Regional Park to benefit the clients of all of ACTS programs. The two conducted a half-hour partner boot camp workout followed by a partner yoga practice. Anyone how donated the $10-$20 suggested donation was entered into a drawing for great prizes like a gift certificate for a month of Nutrition Coaching from Alicia Cross Training and month of complete wellness/fitness programming from Priority Wellness.
After the event was over, I sat down with Alicia to talk about how the event went and why she and Coach TJ chose to hold a fundraiser for ACTS:
Ethan: Do you typically hold events together, or is this the first time you've partnered for a cause?
Alicia: This was the first event TJ and I co-hosted.
Ethan: How did you hear about ACTS and why did you choose to support our clients?
Alicia: TJ has worked with ACTS before. I liked the fact that we were helping people right here in our community.
Ethan: Does ACTS have any programs in particular that you wanted to support, or do you just like our overall mission?
Alicia: ACTS' mission of hope and compassion absolutely resonates with me, especially as a yogi.
Ethan: How did the partner session and extending the event into the following week go?
Alicia: The event was an amazing success! We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Mother Nature really came through for us! We saw familiar faces and met new friends. TJ coached us through a great partner workout and I led a relaxing partner yoga practice. We were so grateful for the turnout and the support that day. We were equally grateful to the local businesses who generously donated prizes for the raffle. We wanted to give people an opportunity to donate even if they couldn't make it out to the event so we continued to accept donations all week. TJ stepped it up by committing us to match burpees for dollars in the following week. And people came through! We were able to double our contribution with that challenge! TJ and I did over 200 burpees prior to the drawing the following Friday on a Facebook Live Video. We had some participants from the first event out there with us. We are so grateful for all the support we received to make this event a success. We had a great day of fun and fitness with friends and we were able to support ACTS and help people right here in our community.
