Meals Made The ACTS Way

Meals Made The ACTS Way

On Friday, August 19th, the Beverly Warren Emergency Shelter received a donation of 25 brown bag lunches for the clients that reside there. This generous donation was made by Ms. Terri Walton and a group from The Greater Praise Temple Ministries, who represent several different groups and organizations that make recurring food donations to ACTS. From the Food Pantry to the Emergency Shelter, food and necessary items such as toiletries are the most important donations we receive at ACTS, and it is through the help of our community partners that we are able to prevent hunger to our neighbors in Prince William County.

The group from The Greater Praise Temple Ministries participated in a program that is run through the Emergency Shelter called the Adopt a Day (ADD) Program. Churches, school groups, and families are invited to get involved with this program, which entails the following:
  • Meals can be dropped off at the Emergency Shelter and our staff will serve it to the shelter's residents. If it is the donors' wish, they can bring and serve the meals for our clients.
  • Our shelter has an 18-bed capacity. However, we will give you a courtesy call to let you know how many clients we have on the your specific week that you have requested to participate.
  • Dinner is served at 6:15 pm and we ask that our donors arrive earlier if they wish to serve their meal.
  • All donations are appreciated, and can consist of the following:
  • Dinner is our most needed meal and can be home-style or store-bought.
  • Lunch is optional. If you would like to donate lunch, prepared sandwiches, or the ingredients for sandwiches are always quick and easy. Microwave Mac & Cheese or Chef Boyardee canned pastas are also good examples.
  • Breakfast is also optional. If you decide to bring breakfast, microwavable meals like waffles and sausage, or cereal and milk are the most preferred.

Meanwhile the Food Pantry, which has already assisted over 8,000 households this year alone, is gearing up for ACTS' largest giving event in November called "Operation Turkey." During this event, ACTS provides essential Thanksgiving Dinner items like stuffing and canned vegetables along with vouchers for turkeys to our clients who register through our Emergency Assistance program. Families will have the opportunity to sign up for this event in the next few weeks, and last year, 794 households received 9,763 pounds of food. We hope to provide even more meals this year, and are continuously indebted to our donors who provide relief to our neighbors in this way.
