SAVAS

About SAVAS

Founded as a grassroots organization in 1983, SAVAS is the only sexual assault crisis center serving Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. Since that time, staff and volunteers have responded to thousands of people in crisis, no matter how long ago the trauma occurred.

SAVAS empowers survivors of sexual assault and their loved ones to heal and to move forward in their lives. We are committed to ending all forms of sexual assault in our community.

SAVAS upholds the principle that sexual assault is a social rather than a personal problem. We provide a support system of people helping people through understanding, peer interaction, education, and advocacy. SAVAS helps sexual abuse and sexual assault survivors discover paths to healing and to regain power over their lives.

Our Services

Crisis Intervention Counseling

Victims of sexual assault need support from empathetic and aware individuals in order to understand and overcome the impact of sexual assault. Following a model of self-help, the counselor’s role is to provide education and support, as well as to suggest skills that help the victim reassert power over his or her own life. This service is provided in our offices for survivors and their loves ones who are 12 years of age or older. No fees charged.

24-Hour Hotline

Our hotline is staffed by trained volunteers and staff to respond to the immediate needs of victims of sexual assault and their loved ones, including understanding feelings, exploring criminal justice options, encouraging medical care, and providing information and community referrals. No fees charged.

Support Groups

Group support from peers can be a powerful tool for healing. We offer closed support groups for adolescents and adults several times per year in both the east and west ends of the county. We welcome referrals from mental health providers throughout the community. No fees charged.

24-Hour Hospital Accompaniment

SAVAS provides support for any victim who undergoes forensic evidence collection. As part of the sexual assault response team, our role is to advocate for the emotional and physical needs of the victim, which enables other members of the team to focus on their role of investigation or evidence collection. No fees charged.

Court Accompaniment

SAVAS helps victims of sexual assault navigate the court process and provides accompaniment throughout pre-trial meetings and hearings, trial, and sentencing. No fees charged.

Hispanic Services

All of SAVAS’ services are available for Spanish speakers. No fees charged.

Community Education and Outreach

Education and outreach programs are conducted throughout the community to raise awareness about sexual assault. Risk reduction presentations are available for schools, colleges and universities. Awareness and training programs also are provided for civic groups and allied professionals. No fees charged.

Volunteer Program

SAVAS is able to operate as a 24-hour crisis program because of our dedicated community volunteers. Our volunteers take intensive comprehensive training to provide hospital advocacy, answer the hotline, and conduct community education programs. Training is offered several times per year.

RAD and RAD Kids

Rape Aggression Defense classes teach self defense and risk reduction. Fees apply. Scholarships and group rates are available. Call us to register for a class.
